Right! So I’m behind on posts and it’s bedtime (for the Mama) so I’ll try and make this short.
Where I left off, Abby was falling asleep in her crib. Tuesday night, Abby had her dreamfeed and went back to sleep. She slept until 1:45 or so again, woke up, nursed and went back to bed (prolly with the paci – can’t remember).
Unfortunately, she woke up at 6 a.m. wide awake and ready to conquer the world. She wouldn’t go back down for anything, so we finally caved and got her up. In hindsight, that might have been a big mistake. It threw off the rest of the day – badly – to the point that by 11 a.m., we were willing to write off the whole day as a loss, sleep training wise. We took advantage of it to head out of the house for a little while after the little miss refused to nap all morning.
Of course, we made it about 10 minutes in the stroller and she absolutely conked out. She slept for about an hour and a half. When she woke, she nursed a little and then we headed back home. She ate more at home but refused to go to sleep while I was at Hebrew class. Jeremy finally got her down at about 4:30 – after she had worked herself into quite a lather – and I came back from class early. She woke at around 5:30 but showed no intentions of going to sleep. We kept her up and played with her, fed her oodles of milk and got her in the tub. She ate a little more and got into her PJs and I put her to sleep. She went down “late” according to the schedule – 8:30 p.m. – and we had dinner.
Given how badly things were off course, I suggested we skip the dreamfeed. If she woke, we would feed her, but we weren’t going to wake her up ourselves.
A good thing, that. Abby slept until 4:30 a.m.
She nursed and seemed content, but not that sleepy. Given that we had decided Thursday would be the “Parting of the Pacifiers,” we thought we’d give her the chance to fall asleep on her own – especially since she didn’t fuss when I put her back in her crib after nursing.
I think she almost got there, but not quite. We could hear her sucking her fingers from outside her room. She played happily for 20 minutes or so before she started getting cranky – I went in and put her back to sleep. And like clockwork, she woke at just after 7 a.m., ready to face the day.
We’re not there yet. We may have a long way to go. But things are definitely moving in the right direction.
